An investigation into Joseph Hardoon began following a referral from his former employer, an Ocean Township business, alleging he stole funds while serving as their bookkeeper, Santiago said. The investigation by the MCPO Financial Crimes and Special Prosecutions Unit discovered Hardoon stole $497,500 between 2021 and 2024, Santiago said. Hardoon was charged with theft by unlawful taking, Santiago said.
